CONFERENCES
“The Meetings of Eco-Efficiency” will provide the opportunity to check the progress made in the key areas of eco-efficiency and energy. The section will feature scientific congresses as well as political and strategic events (like UNEP on sustainable cities or the World Political Forum on Energy organized in the framework of Uniamo le Energie). The conferences, debates and workshops are addressed to researchers and experts but also to the citizens who are eager to know more about the technological, regulatory and institutional context they live in and the policies implemented by the relevant political bodies. Two examples of scientific congresses are BIOEDILIZIA ITALIA, summoning the leading Italian experts on sustainable architecture and HYSYDAYS that attracts young researchers in the field of hydrogen every two years from all over the world. Other meetings and debates will include sustainable tourism, the Kyoto protocol opportunities for businesses and the environmental measurement of regional policies. Flor09 will host the International Conference of Urban Market Gardening.

EVENTS

In the framework of the Eco-Efficiency Biennial, the Valentino Park will host a leg of Formula 0, the world hydrogen go-kart championship, with the participation of teams from a number of foreign universities. It is promoted by Formula Zero, a Rotterdam organization (the Netherlands) that develops hydrogen technologies for sports events and competitions.

Following the example of Off_Corso, the first eco-disco in the world, the Eco-Efficiency Biennial will organize an evening on a dance floor that respects the environment. The dance floor is suspended on special crystals which vibrate under the feet pressure and thus produce piezoelectric energy. Impulses are then sent to a generator that can meet the energy requirement of the entire building.

EXPO
In accordance with a new vision, the Eco-Efficiency Biennial 2009 will be addressed to the citizens and consumers rather then to experts only. Following the success of the “Case” format applied during the Olympic Games of 2006 and Torino Design Capital, two exhibition areas will gather the local enterprises concerned with renewable energy sources and sustainable housing.
